The BBC reports that the casino's chips can be purchased with in-game currency at a $1 to 1 chip ratio. GTA V's money can be either earned in-game, or purchased with real-world money at a rate of $500,000 in GTA currency for $10 USD. In addition, the casino only allows players to purchase $50,000(GTA) worth of chips per in-game day, or real-world hour.
No GTA money or chips can be cashed out for real-world currency, which is notable especially in light of the fact that earlier this week, British MPs declared that FIFA's in-game player packs and loot boxes were not gambling because there was no legitimate way to monetize their virtual contents after purchase.
Instead, that money can be used to purchase other in-game items, such as cars, weapons, or appearance-changing items.

Will GTA Online Casino update add a new currency?
Playing devils advocate there's one thing which suggests we might have to wait a little bit longer for this update, and that's all to do with the potential for new mini-game, a recent Red Dead Online update and microtransactions.
Something Gamesrader has eloquently explained in a separate report.
'This news comes shortly after poker and other gambling games were added toRed Dead Online, stirring the pot since the game has microtransactions,' writes Ford James on Gamesrader.
'Only gold bars can be bought with real money however, and gambling in that game uses dollars, which are a separate currency.
'For Rockstar to avoid uproar, it'll need to introduce a second currency to GTA Online that can't be bought with real money, which we haven't had any sign of yet.
'Only time will tell, however, and it's likely that Red Dead Online's gambling was used to test the waters for GTA Online, which is their big-time cash cow.

We don't think we're going to be waiting too much longer for the GTA Online Casino Update to arrive, but it certainly feels like it could be another major expansion to the ever-growing Grand Theft Auto universe.
